Tailgate BasicsWhether you’re going to watch the Royals or Chiefs at the stadium or hosting a watch party at home, there are a few basics that every good tailgate party needs. First and foremost, you need to create the right atmosphere. Tailgates are all about celebrating team pride and making a real occasion out of the game. Obviously you should wear the team colors, but extra points go to jerseys, face paint, and crafty costumes imitating the team’s mascot. Decorations are also key. Dress up your living room with banners and flags, and maybe even get some of those classic foam fingers. Another idea we love is to get a little crafty with your tailgate party decorations. Craft up some DIY party coasters (check out this tutorial from Homemade Gifts Made Easy) with print-outs of baseballs, footballs, or your favorite players. The great thing about this is that the coasters are reusable! All these little details will liven up the party and get everyone into the team spirit even if you’re watching the game on TV.
Tailgate Party FoodA tailgate party is nothing without great snacks and drinks to keep everyone entertained during the commercials. While providing tailgate classics like chips and dip, hamburgers, and hot dogs is always welcome, we recommend getting a little more creative. Find ways to incorporate the Royals or Chiefs theme into the tailgate party food. We love this DIY idea from Good Housekeeping. Check out their tutorial to learn how to make your own mini football stadium out of typical tailgate party snacks! Don’t forget about dessert. After getting their fill of salty snacks, your tailgate party guests will be craving something sweet. We recommend Tippin’s mini fruit pies–that way, you and your friends can try a wide variety of different flavors so that everyone can have their favorite pie. However, if you’d rather get a full-sized pie for everyone to share, Tippin’s has some perfect options. For the Royals, you could stick to the classic, all-American, baseball theme by getting our traditional Apple Pie. For the Chiefs, show your pride with a bright red cherry pie.
